TALIESIN WEST in Scottsdale was Frank Lloyd Wright's winter studio and the architectural school he founded in 1937 — a desert compound built by apprentices from local stone and redwood beams, with low overhanging roofs and walls that taper to the horizon. The name is Welsh for "shining brow." Wright kept revising the buildings until his death in 1959. The school is still there. The desert is still doing the heavy lifting. Rendered in a minimalist, vintage-inspired travel-poster style, this piece captures the low desert masonry of Taliesin against the McDowell Mountains, geometric pools holding the foreground, saguaro silhouetted on the ridge. Desert stone, pool slate, sky cobalt. A tribute to a school whose architecture was the curriculum.
