PINNACLES NATIONAL PARK is the remains of a 23-million-year-old volcano that has been chopped in half by the San Andreas Fault and carried 195 miles northwest of where it started. The other half is still down near Lancaster. Pinnacles is also one of the release sites for the California condor recovery program — about thirty of them live here, and their nine-foot wingspans cast their own shadows on the talus caves below.
Rendered in a minimalist, vintage-inspired travel-poster style, this piece captures the volcanic spires rising sharp against a golden California sky, oak woodland in the lower bowl, a soaring condor crossing the upper third. Spire ochre, chaparral green, sky gold. A tribute to a park that traveled here from somewhere else.
