MONUMENT VALLEY is a Navajo Tribal Park on the Utah-Arizona border — sandstone buttes and mesas rising a thousand feet from the floor of the high desert, in formations so recognizable that John Ford filmed nine westerns here and decided the location was a co-star. The Diné call the place *Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii*, "valley of the rocks." They've been here longer than the films.
Rendered in a minimalist, vintage-inspired travel-poster style, this piece captures the iconic three buttes of the West, East, and Merrick mitten silhouettes rising above the red sand floor, a long desert horizon stretching east. Butte rust, sand orange, sky violet. A tribute to a landscape that taught Hollywood what the American West looked like.
