JHARANA is a temple city lifted clean off the ground: a tiered stone platform crowned by a great carved archway, hovering above misty blue valleys while snow-capped peaks look on. Ancient steps, terraces and hanging roots trail beneath it, and the morning light pours through the arch like a doorway to somewhere better. Visitors are reminded that the foundations are, technically, optional.
