BURK is a Viking village on a small rocky outcrop in the middle of nowhere — twelve days north of hopeless, a few degrees south of freezing to death, with sturdy stone houses, working catapults, and a population that handles pest control by adopting the pests. The local fauna has wings. The local fauna also has names. The official welcome line is "the upside is the pets," and the locals will let you ride one as soon as it likes you.
Rendered in a minimalist, vintage-inspired travel-poster style, this piece captures the tall central spire of the village rising from the rocky island, dragons wheeling overhead in the late-day light, the cold sea breaking white below. Sea-stack stone, dragon green, sky gold. A tribute to a village whose Viking forebears had a problem and decided to befriend it.
