SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK contains the largest single tree on earth — the General Sherman tree, by volume — and the densest concentration of giant sequoias in the world. The sequoia is the only species that requires fire to reproduce; the cones need heat to release the seeds. After a century of fire suppression and one bad fire season, the park is now actively doing prescribed burns to save the trees that fire built.
Rendered in a minimalist, vintage-inspired travel-poster style, this piece captures giant sequoia trunks rising past the frame, the General Sherman dominating the foreground, sun lancing through the canopy. Sequoia rust, canopy emerald, golden shaft. A tribute to trees that need the fire to make the next batch.
