MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK contains the longest known cave system on earth — over 420 mapped miles, with the survey adding to it every year. Stephen Bishop, an enslaved guide in the 1830s and 40s, mapped much of it by lamplight and named most of the places. The Echo River runs through the bottom. Above ground, the Kentucky hills carry on, oblivious.
Rendered in a minimalist, vintage-inspired travel-poster style, this piece captures a vaulted limestone passage receding into shadow, golden lamp glow on the walls, a small group of visitors silhouetted at the bend. Cave amber, limestone gray, passage shadow. A tribute to a cave that is still mostly unmapped.
Collect your favorite national park destinations — from cathedral passages to bluegrass hills — as minimalist travel-style prints.
